Purcellville (Sept. 17, 2008) – The Loudoun Valley High School golf team defeated Chantilly Tuesday in a 9-hole dual match at Loudoun Golf and Country Club that featured two teams that advanced to the AAA state tournament last year, including the state runner-up Chargers.
It was Senior Day for the Vikings, currently tied for the Cedar Run District regular-season title with Battlefield, senior Austin Kaseman rose to the occasion, shooting a 1-under 34 to lead Valley past the Concorde District regular season champions, 142-147. It was the Chargers second dual meet loss on the season, both non-district affairs on the road against Northwest Region opponents as Chantilly earlier lost to Prince William power Forest Park.
Also for the Vikings, sophomore Scott Davidson shot even par 35, junior Brian Hickey had 36, and junior Colin Wallace posted a 37. And Viking senior Kevin Rinek teed off in his final home match.
For Chantilly, Tyler Chaplin had 36, Sam Chanhiran, Steve Aanstoos and Victor Monte each had 37, and Ji Soo Park posted 38 and Mike Gagne shot 39 as all six Chargers posted sub-40 rounds.
Loudoun Valley is undefeated at home for the regular season and will face Battlefield at Dominion Valley on Sept. 23 to decide the regular season champion in the Cedar Run District.
Chantilly will play in the Concorde District tournament on Sept. 23-24 at Twin Lakes. The Chargers already have a spot in the AAA Northern Region tournament, where they are the defending champions, thanks to their 5-0-1 Concorde dual match mark.
